Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure the butter is at room temperature.
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring Add more for a deeper red color.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Add-ins
  • 1 cup white chocolate chunks Feel free to experiment with other types of chocolate.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg, red food coloring, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  6. Fold in the white chocolate chunks.
Baking
  1. Drop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  2. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.
  3. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

These cookies can be served warm or at room temperature. Serve with milk or coffee. For a special dessert, consider adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.
