Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Line a 9-inch pie plate with the bottom crust and trim the edge. Set aside.
- In a bowl, combine the apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
Assembly
- Spoon the apple mixture into the crust-lined pie plate, then dot the apples with butter.
- Roll out the second pie crust and cover the apple mixture.
- Seal the edges and crimp them.
- Cut slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
- Brush the top with an egg wash and sprinkle with sugar.
Baking
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes.
- Reduce the oven temperature to 375°F (190°C) and continue baking for an additional 30 minutes or until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.
Cooling
- Cool the pie on a cooling rack before serving.
Notes
