  • 6 cups peeled, cored, and chopped apples Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for balanced flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened apple juice

Method
 

Cooking
  1. Place the chopped apples in a slow cooker.
  2. Add the cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, lemon juice, and apple juice.
  3. Stir to combine everything well.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or until the apples are soft and have broken down.
  5. Use an immersion blender to puree the mixture to your desired consistency.
  6. Continue to cook uncovered for an additional hour to thicken, if desired.
  7. Once done, store in jars and enjoy as a spread on toast or in oatmeal.

Notes

Store apple butter in clean jars in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Can freeze for longer storage. Thaw in the fridge before using. Consider adding vanilla extract for an extra kick.
