Ingredients
  

For the Apple Filling
  • 6 cups sliced apples Mix of sweet and tart apples recommended
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
For the Batter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
  3. Spread the apple mixture in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
Making the Batter
  1. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  2. Gradually add buttermilk and melted butter, and mix until just combined.
  3. Pour the batter over the apples, spreading it evenly.
Baking
  1. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
  2. Let it cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve warm, topped with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or a sprinkle of cinnamon. Store leftover cobbler in the refrigerator for up to three days.
