For the mousse
  • 1 cup 1 cup (6 oz) semi-sweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate Use good quality chocolate for the best flavor.
  • 1 cup 1 cup heavy whipping cream, chilled Ensure the cream is well-chilled for better whipping.
  • 2 tbsp 2 tbsp powdered sugar (optional, for sweetness) Adjust according to taste.
  • 1 tsp 1 tsp vanilla extract Vanilla enhances the flavor of the mousse.

Preparation
  1. Place the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in 20-second intervals, stirring between each, until fully melted and smooth. Let it cool slightly.
  2. In a separate large bowl, beat the chilled heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
  3. Gently fold ⅓ of the whipped cream into the melted chocolate to lighten it. Then, fold in the remaining whipped cream until no streaks remain.
  4. Divide the mousse into serving glasses or bowls. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours (or up to overnight) before serving.
  5. Garnish with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or fresh berries before serving.

Notes

This mousse is quick to prepare and can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days. For flavor variations, consider adding coffee or spices.
