Dough Ingredients
  • 1 cup sourdough starter Must be active
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour You can substitute whole wheat flour if desired
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup water Room temperature
  • 0.5 cup sugar Can be reduced for a less sweet flavor
  • 0.5 cup peppermint chips Feel free to add more for a stronger flavor

Preparation
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the sourdough starter, flour, cocoa powder, salt, water, and sugar. Mix until a dough forms.
  2. Add the peppermint chips and knead the dough until well blended.
  3. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let it rise for about 4-6 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  4. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) while the dough is rising.
  5. Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a greased loaf pan.
  6. Let the dough rise for another hour.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
  8. Cool on a wire rack before slicing.

Notes

Store the bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. For longer storage, wrap tightly in plastic wrap and freeze.
