Preparation
- Prepare an 8×8 inch baking pan by lining it with parchment paper, leaving some overhang on the sides for easy removal.
- In a large, microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and cubed butter.
Cooking
- Microwave the mixture on high power for 1 minute. Remove and stir vigorously with a spatula.
- Continue microwaving in additional 30-second intervals, stirring well after each, until the mixture is completely smooth and melted. This usually takes 2-3 intervals total.
- Once smooth, stir in the vanilla extract and sea salt. Fold in nuts if using.
Setting
- Quickly pour the fudge into your prepared pan and use the spatula to spread it into an even layer.
- Let the fudge cool at room temperature for about 1 hour, then transfer to the refrigerator to set completely for at least 2-3 hours.
- Using the parchment paper overhang, lift the fudge block from the pan. Place it on a cutting board and slice into 1-inch squares.
Notes
For flavor twists, try dark chocolate, milk chocolate, or peanut butter chips. Consider add-ins like dried cherries, peppermint candies, or marshmallows. Sprinkle flaky sea salt on top for a gourmet finish.
