  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon ground cloves
  • ½ teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Stir in buttermilk.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, spices, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
Baking
  1. Bake for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  2. Let it cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

Chai Cake is delicious on its own, but can be served with powdered sugar or caramel sauce. It can also be accompanied by vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
