Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 3 cups self-rising flour See notes for substitution with all-purpose flour.
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar Balances beer bitterness.
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 bottle or can (12 oz) beer Room temperature (lager, IPA, or ale work well).

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a standard 9x5 inch loaf pan with butter or non-stick spray.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the self-rising flour and sugar until well combined.
Mixing
  1. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the room-temperature beer.
  2. Gently stir with a wooden spoon or spatula until just combined, avoiding overmixing.
Baking
  1. Transfer the thick batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth out the top.
  2. Bake for 45-55 minutes until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cooling
  1. Allow the loaf to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For alternative flour, combine 3 cups of all-purpose flour with 4 ½ teaspoons of baking powder and 1 ½ teaspoons of salt. Add-ins like shredded cheese, herbs, or bacon can be mixed in before baking.
