Preparation
- Pat the pork shoulder dry with paper towels to help the seasoning stick better.
- Rub the dry onion soup mix all over the pork, ensuring every inch is coated. For extra flavor, let it sit for 10–15 minutes.
Cooking
- Place the pork in your slow cooker and pour the chicken broth (or apple juice) around it.
- Cover and cook on Low for 8 hours or High for 4–5 hours until the pork is fall-apart tender.
- Once cooked, shred the pork with two forks or slice it for serving.
- If you prefer a crispy exterior, transfer the pork to a baking sheet and broil for 3–5 minutes.
- Spoon the juices from the slow cooker over the pork for extra moisture.
Notes
You can swap the seasoning by using a mix of garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. For a complete meal, add potatoes, carrots, and onions. For a sweet twist, replace chicken broth with cola or root beer for a caramelized glaze. Store leftovers in airtight containers for up to 4 days or freeze for 3 months.
