Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 3-4 lbs pork shoulder (or pork butt)
  • 1 packet (1 oz) dry onion soup mix (or homemade seasoning blend)
  • 1 cup low-sodium chicken broth (or apple juice for a sweeter twist)

Method

Preparation
  1. Pat the pork shoulder dry with paper towels to help the seasoning stick better.
  2. Rub the dry onion soup mix all over the pork, ensuring every inch is coated. For extra flavor, let it sit for 10–15 minutes.
Cooking
  1. Place the pork in your slow cooker and pour the chicken broth (or apple juice) around it.
  2. Cover and cook on Low for 8 hours or High for 4–5 hours until the pork is fall-apart tender.
  3. Once cooked, shred the pork with two forks or slice it for serving.
  4. If you prefer a crispy exterior, transfer the pork to a baking sheet and broil for 3–5 minutes.
  5. Spoon the juices from the slow cooker over the pork for extra moisture.

Notes

You can swap the seasoning by using a mix of garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. For a complete meal, add potatoes, carrots, and onions. For a sweet twist, replace chicken broth with cola or root beer for a caramelized glaze. Store leftovers in airtight containers for up to 4 days or freeze for 3 months.
