Ingredients

Base Ingredients
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened to room temperature Use full-fat for best results.
  • 2 cups powdered sugar, sifted Sifting prevents lumps.
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract For best flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Remove the cream cheese from the refrigerator at least 1-2 hours before you plan to make the frosting.
Making the Frosting
  1. Place softened cream cheese in a large mixing bowl and beat on medium speed for 2-3 minutes until smooth and fluffy.
  2. With the mixer on low, gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, about half a cup at a time.
  3. Once all sugar is incorporated, add the vanilla extract and beat on medium-high for 2-3 minutes until fluffy.
  4. Adjust consistency by adding 1 tablespoon of milk if too thick or more powdered sugar if too thin.

Notes

This frosting is perfect for layer cakes, cupcakes, cinnamon rolls, and more. Room temperature ingredients mix more smoothly.
