Ingredients

For the Ice Cream Base
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream (cold) Ensure the cream is cold for better whipping.
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk (14 oz) This provides the sweetness and creaminess.
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder Dutch-process preferred for a smoother flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk and cocoa powder until completely smooth, ensuring no lumps remain.
  2. In a large, chilled mixing bowl, beat the cold heavy whipping cream on medium-high speed until stiff peaks form, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Gently fold the chocolate mixture into the whipped cream using a rubber spatula until uniform in color, avoiding deflation.
  4. Transfer the mixture to a freezer-safe container, smooth the top, cover with plastic wrap directly onto the surface, and freeze for at least 6 hours.
  5. Remove from freezer 5-10 minutes before serving to allow for easier scooping.

Notes

For variations, consider adding melted dark chocolate, mint extract, espresso powder, mini chocolate chips, or toasted nuts. Store in an airtight container for optimal freshness.
