  • 2 cups beef broth (low-sodium preferred) For a lighter option, chicken broth can also be used.
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour Can substitute with cornstarch for a gluten-free option.
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter Melted in the pan.
  • Salt and black pepper to taste Adjust according to preference.

  1. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the flour and whisk continuously for 1–2 minutes until a smooth paste (roux) forms.
  3. Slowly pour in the beef broth while whisking vigorously to prevent clumps.
  4. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce heat to low.
  5. Let it simmer for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the gravy thickens to your desired consistency.
  6. Taste and adjust with salt and pepper if needed.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a splash of Worcestershire sauce or a pinch of garlic powder. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
